About This Job:

This position is responsible for tactical support to the Tropical and Sub-tropical sweet corn breeding. This is a full-time assignment and report directly to the Senior Breeder, Sweet Corn.

The main activities of this position relate to facilitate and participate in the breeding process for the target market by managing processes, projects, operations, data collection and analysis/summarization as well as coordinate with logistic team for seed shipment to other countries.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Sweet corn nursery and crossing block, maintaining, evaluating and harvesting.
  • Manage directly and/or review/oversee day-to-day field operations of including all aspects of growing, pollinating and harvesting.
  • Coordinate the management of nurseries and trials by NSPP
  • Assist in the evaluation of new experimental hybrids and selection within segregating populations.
  • Inspect fields and perform sample collection and submission for disease identification
  • Participate in evaluation of  segregating populations and fixed germplasm (lines and varieties) before and at eating stage
  • Manage/perform data collection of plant growth and harvest data.
  • Assist in disease screening activities depending on target disease.
  • Perform independent evaluation and data collection as request by the Breeder or Trial Officer.
  • Perform environmental monitoring and environment and field surveys in order to validate the overall value of trials and trial sites.
  • Coordinate and supervise the management of trials by third-party
  • Manage and maintain program data
  • Manage trials in Syngenta breeding databases
  • Manage the Syngenta databases for seed inventory
  • Ensure data integrity in Syngenta breeding databases
  • Develop and maintain excellent internal and external customer relationships.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal personnel
  • Participate in team-wide technical activity together with other Breeder, Assistant Breeders and Technicians aimed to improve R&D practices
  • Maintain an active skill development program in line with Sweet Corn R&D skill development.
  • Participate with Breeder, Trial Officer and other Sweet Corn R&D person in setting breeding and team strategies.
  • Coordinate with logistic team for seed shipment to other countries.

Qualifications

  • MS (Plant Breeding) required
  • Knowledge of plant breeding, statistics and agricultural required.
  • Knowledge of biotechnology preferred
  • Ability to manage projects
  • Ability to work across diverse groups
  • Ability to summarize and clearly communicate information
  • Computer skills necessary to document development/management, database query, meeting organization and project/portfolio management
  • Possession Driving License

Additional Important Information:

  • Full time position.
  • Travel requirement: 90% for domestic and international
  • Work location: Khon Kaen, Thailand
